The Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery II of the Affiliated Hospital of Sichuan North Medical College aims to provide standardized surgical treatment of gastrointestinal as well as hernia diseases.
General departmental profile
The Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery II was established in April 2016 and is located on the 14th floor of Inpatient Department No.1 of Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College with 80 staffed beds. The department has a strong professional academic atmosphere, and its mission is to improve the prognosis of gastric and colorectal cancer through surgery, research and teaching. The department's academic echelon is reasonable, with a group of young and middle-aged backbones with good academic background, solid theoretical foundation, and innovative consciousness and scientific research ability. There are 13 physicians in the department. There are 13 physicians in the department, including 2 chief physicians, 4 deputy chief physicians, 6 medical doctors, 3 doctoral students and 5 master of medicine. At present, there are 4 master's supervisors, training more than 20 master's students. There are 1 deputy chief nurse, 4 nurse nractitioners in charge, 16 nurse practitioners, and more than 10 specialized nurses in various nursing fields.
The annual outpatient volume of the department reaches more than 21,000, and the total number of annual surgeries of the whole department is nearly 1,700, of which more than 700 gastrointestinal tumor surgeries are completed, more than 200 surgeries for various types of inguinal hernia, incisional hernia, abdominal wall hernia, parastomal hernia and difficult recurrent hernia surgeries are completed, and various types of resection surgeries for retroperitoneal tumors are carried out.
Specialty Medical Care
1. Comprehensive treatment mainly focusing on minimally invasive surgery for gastrointestinal tumors. Routinely carry out standardized minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery for gastric cancer and colorectal cancer; carry out neoadjuvant chemotherapy for progressive gastric cancer and colorectal cancer; carry out translational therapy for advanced gastric cancer and colorectal cancer, and strive for radical surgery for some advanced cancer patients; regularly carry out multidisciplinary comprehensive discussion (MDT) for gastric cancer and colorectal cancer.
2. The laparoscopic surgeries carried out include: anterior resection of rectal cancer, anus-preserving surgery for low rectal cancer, right hemicolectomy, radical surgery for colon cancer, total colectomy, resection of gastrointestinal mesenchymal tumors, radical surgery for gastric cancer, inguinal hernia, abdominal wall hernia, and repair of esophageal hiatal hernia, etc., which have won a number of prizes in the national and provincial surgical video competitions.
3. Implementing the concept of rapid rehabilitation surgery (ERAS) in all aspects of the perioperative period, postoperative early enteral nutrition, the establishment of PICC venous access and other new technologies.
4. For the treatment of complex intestinal fistula and various types of intestinal obstruction, we have accumulated rich experience, and the non-surgical cure rate has increased significantly.
Research Field
The department is dedicated to the study of micRNA and lncRNA related mechanisms in colorectal cancer and constipation. The department conducts multidisciplinary collaborative oncology research with several medical centers with the aim of rapidly and effectively translating research findings into cutting-edge clinical treatments for cancer patients.
