The Department of Neurosurgery at the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College holds a prominent position as a leading medical discipline in Sichuan Province. It serves as a national training hub for neurosurgery physicians and offers graduate education programs for aspiring neurosurgeons. Renowned as the earliest-established, technologically advanced, and most robust neurosurgery department in Northeast Sichuan, it seamlessly integrates clinical practice, scientific research, and education. Functioning as a pivotal center for the treatment of various neurological disorders in Northeast Sichuan, the department specializes in addressing conditions such as traumatic brain injuries, cerebral hemorrhages, cerebrovascular diseases, intracranial tumors, spinal cord tumors, and more. It plays dual roles as both a research institution and a teaching facility, dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of neurosurgical diseases.
The department is distinguished by its abundance of talent and extensive clinical experience, providing a significant advantage in Northeast Sichuan. Currently, it comprises 5 senior experts with high professional titles, 6 associate senior experts, 5 doctors, and 14 masters. The team consists of energetic and responsive neurosurgeons, highly specialized in their respective fields, alongside a well-trained nursing staff. Collaborating seamlessly, the medical and nursing teams embody unity, diligence, and a commitment to continuous learning. This collaborative effort fosters a positive environment characterized by patient trust, harmonious doctor-patient relationships, and peer recognition. Consequently, the department has garnered significant influence both within and beyond the province.
The department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and comprehensive equipment, boasting a range of advanced resources essential for neurosurgical procedures. This includes fully automated operating beds, surgical power systems, surgical microscopes with synchronous monitoring systems, bipolar coagulation devices, ultrasonic scalpels, neurophysiological monitoring systems, surgical navigation systems, mobile CT scanners, stereotactic systems, and neuroendoscopes. Additionally, it possesses a wide array of internationally advanced surgical facilities and instruments. Furthermore, the department is equipped with advanced nursing and monitoring equipment, such as transcranial Doppler ultrasound machines, both invasive and non-invasive intracranial pressure monitors, sub-low-temperature therapy devices, and extracorporeal vibration-assisted cough devices. The total value of these resources exceeds one hundred million yuan.
Recognized as the most advanced neurosurgery department in the local and surrounding areas, it boasts extensive capabilities for the surgical treatment of brain and spinal cord diseases. In recent years, the department has pioneered minimally invasive surgery techniques aimed at maximizing lesion resection while minimizing surgical trauma, thus ensuring patients achieve a good postoperative quality of life. The department has successfully performed a series of high-difficulty, high-risk surgeries, including endoscopic resection of sellar and ventricular tumors, transnasal endoscopic resection of tumors in the sellar region via a single nostril approach, clipping of large/complex intracranial aneurysms, resection of brainstem and high cervical spinal cord tumors, resection of skull base tumors via orbitozygomatic approach, resection of spinal cord tumors via hemilaminectomy approach, Parkinson's deep brain stimulation surgery, minimally invasive balloon compression surgery for trigeminal neuralgia, and interventional surgery for cerebrovascular diseases. Additionally, the volume of surgeries for common diseases such as intracranial tumors, cerebral hemorrhages, cranial trauma, and spinal canal tumors has been increasing year by year, with increasingly better treatment outcomes. To date, the department has treated and operated on over ten thousand patients, accumulating considerable clinical experience.
While continuously enhancing clinical diagnosis and treatment standards, the department places significant emphasis on research endeavors. In recent years, it has completed or participated in over ten research projects at provincial, ministerial, or bureau levels. These projects predominantly focus on basic and clinical research related to cerebrovascular diseases, cranial tumors, cranial trauma, hyperbaric oxygen therapy in neurosurgical diseases, as well as tertiary prevention and nursing research on common neurosurgical conditions. The research achievements have been recognized through the evaluation of achievements in Nanchong City twice, three times in Sichuan Province, and have received one first prize and one second prize in scientific and technological achievements in Nanchong City. Additionally, they have been awarded three third prizes for scientific and technological progress in Sichuan Province, one second prize for medical science and technology in Sichuan Province, and two third prizes for scientific and technological progress in Sichuan Province.
