The Brief Introduction to Obstetrics
The Department of Obstetrics at Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College is a leading discipline, a provincial-level critical maternal and infant treatment center, a standardized training base for resident physicians in Sichuan Province, a specialized nurse training base for midwives, a national pilot unit for painless labour, a national high-quality service unit for women and infants in 2020, a master’s degree training site for obstetrics and gynecology, a key discipline of North Sichuan Medical College and a key discipline construction project of Sichuan Provincial Medicine. Now it has developed into a leading modern medical department integrating medical treatment, teaching , scientific research and health care in northeast Sichuan.
The department has a high-quality and skilled team composed of 22 doctors, 36 nurses, and 17 midwives. The team members include 3 senior titles, 8 deputy senior titles, 8 chief nurses, 2 doctoral students, and 9 master's students. There is one reserve leader in academic and technical fields in Sichuan Province, one reserve leader in academic and technical fields of the Health Commission of Sichuan Province, and many experts hold important positions in various provincial and municipal academic organizations, with a significant academic status and influence.
The obstetrics outpatient department provides diversified services such as high-risk pregnancy, eugenics genetic counseling, general obstetrics, post-abortion care (PAC), midwifery clinics, breastfeeding counseling, and pregnant women’s schools to meet the individual needs of patients.
Our department is a provincial-level critical maternal treatment center. As a provincial-level critical maternal and infant treatment center, we undertake the rescue work of critically ill pregnant women in the northeastern Sichuan , radiating five regions (Nanchong, Bazhong, Suining, Guang'an, and Dazhou). We carry out complex obstetric surgeries such as dangerous placenta previa, cervical cerclage, uterine compression suture, and standardize the management of pregnancy complications and comorbidities. Through the discussions of difficult cases and emergency drills, the treatment capability has been continuously improved. The obstetrics department is equipped with advanced emergency rescue technology and equipment for critical illnesses, and a multidisciplinary diagnostic and treatment model (MDT) has been built to ensure the safety of mothers and infants.
The department provides services such as labor analgesia, doula-accompanying delivery, intrapartum ultrasound and three-dimensional navigation of labour to help women better cope with the labour process.The neonatologists monitor the condition of the newborns everyday and work with the obstetrics team to ensure the safety of the mothers and infants.
